A diverse curriculum that fosters broad learning and deep thinking

In addition to courses that allow students to acquire language skills and techniques, we offer courses that allow students to learn about Japanese culture and the cultures of East Asian countries that have close ties with Japan from a variety of perspectives, including history, philosophy, art, and literature. We are also open to international students who wish to learn more about Japanese culture.

Course Overview

*Students are divided into courses from the second year onwards. Regardless of which course they belong to, they can take all lectures and seminars offered by the department.

Japanese Culture Course

This course explores in depth and detail the true nature of Japanese culture, including language and literature, history and folklore, performing arts, lifestyle and culture, and philosophy. Students will also acquire research skills through literature reading and fieldwork.

East Asian Culture Course

Students will learn about the cultures of East Asian regions such as China, Taiwan, and Korea (North Korea), which have deep ties with Japan, from a variety of angles, including history, philosophy, and modern situations. Students are also encouraged to study abroad in these regions.

Comparative and Cultural Studies Course

This course will compare cultures from a trans-regional perspective and study their exchange. Students will gain an understanding of the diversity of Japanese and East Asian cultures from a variety of fields, including literature, art, folklore, philosophy, and sports.

English Intensive Class

This is a select class where students study English three times a week. There is also the GC English program that anyone can join.
