Second Year
Developing basic research skills with a focus on Islamic culture
As I studied Japanese culture and religion, my interest in the culture of the Islamic world also grew, and I joined Kuroiwa's seminar. In my second year, I considered the issue of burials in Islamic cemeteries in Japan, where cremation is the norm. I gained a deeper understanding of the differences in culture and customs. I also acquired the basic skills to logically organize materials and read English literature, which form the foundation for more advanced research. I began to want to use the skills I had acquired to analyze the profound world of Islam in my own way.
Third Year
Questioning stereotypes and pursuing research from a unique perspective
In the first semester, I focused on Islamic finance. The more I learned about Islam, the more I felt the gap between the image portrayed in the media and the image of Muslim people I saw around me. Therefore, for my graduation thesis, I plan to interview Indonesian technical intern trainees and research their religious practices and the difficulties they face in Japanese society. My goal is to combine the logical thinking I have developed in the seminar with fieldwork and make new discoveries from my own perspective. I am preparing to make this the culmination of my four years of study.

The seminar also provided many opportunities for presentations, allowing me to experience the joy of logically structuring my thoughts and communicating them to others.
