When you hear "Renaissance art," many people probably imagine gorgeous paintings and architecture. That image is correct, but it's only one side of the coin. In this seminar, we read serious books on the history of Renaissance art, sometimes written in English, and discuss not only the works and artists, but also the social and religious history behind them. We continue to conduct exercises to deepen our understanding of the source of human creativity, looking at the history from which beautiful works were born from multiple angles.

The Greatness and Misery of Humankind: A Challenge to Philosophy from the Genesis View of Humanity
The story of Genesis in the Old Testament expresses the opposing views of humanity, that of greatness and misery. In the first semester, students will grasp the major trends in the history of thought, starting from Genesis and Pascal, and in the second semester, students will freely choose a thinker to present (Stoicism, Montaigne, Descartes, Pascal, and many others), and compile their findings in the form of a thesis.
