We will consider the principles and rules for the media, especially the news, to gain social trust. We will consider and discuss current issues such as real-name reporting vs. anonymous reporting, fake news, big data, and slander on social media.

Gamification is the act of applying the know-how cultivated in computer games to real-world activities. We will learn about various examples of gamification while examining the ingenuity incorporated into game software such as Mario, Pokemon, and APEX.

Globalization and Media / A multifaceted look at media and human mobility in the global era

This course will analyze the movement of people in the global era through keywords such as borders, nationalities, and language barriers. It will also compare media events such as the Olympics and the FIFA World Cup. It will also examine from multiple angles the dissemination of information by foreigners in Japan through newspapers, television, movies, SNS, etc., and issues surrounding multicultural coexistence.

Advertising theory: What kind of society has advertising?

If you want to understand advertising, you must step outside the symbolic system that advertising creates. From this perspective, this class aims to enable you to answer familiar questions about advertising (such as why advertising is ubiquitous and why advertising "goes viral") from a sociological perspective.

Media Literacy

For example, by collecting and comparing data on the themes of feature articles and advertisements in women's magazines and men's magazines, you can see what kind of expectations readers are trying to meet. Learn how to analyze newspapers, magazines, and television programs to approach the media in a more professional way.

Journalism Theory

Think about what the news is for. When do people need news? How do we determine that news is "trustworthy"? We will proceed with the discussion as if it were your own problem.

Electronic Communication Theory

What kind of history is hidden behind the culture of social media such as Facebook and Twitter? This class examines the culture and structure hidden in the dynamics of social media, which has become a major player in communication in modern society, based on actual situations. There is also lively interactive communication between teachers and students.
