Learning accounting through business games

In this seminar, students will learn the essence of accounting by creating financial statements and making management decisions based on financial statement information through a business game that simulates the management of a precision machinery manufacturing company. They will also hold a general shareholders' meeting to announce the results of management, and aim to acquire presentation techniques.

Sanae Ono Seminar

Examining phenomena in global financial markets through data analysis

We hold seminars jointly with second and third year students. Students will learn about exchange rate determination mechanisms, international economics, and the state of various markets, while also learning how to obtain and analyze related data before proceeding with their research. The results of their research will be reported at joint presentations with other universities and seminar conventions, and students will also attempt to give presentations in English.

Analyzing the challenges facing the financial industry and considering future possibilities

Japan's financial industry is facing difficulties in the real economy, such as long-term low growth, and in policy areas, such as monetary policy and regulations. On the other hand, against the backdrop of technological advances, new possibilities such as FinTech are also emerging. In this seminar, we will analyze and understand the challenges facing the financial industry and consider the path forward for the future.

Implementing derivatives pricing models using Python and Excel

We will study derivatives (financial derivative products) such as futures and options. The theoretical price of an option can be calculated analytically or through numerical calculations. In the seminar, we will program to calculate the theoretical price using the programming language Python and Excel, aiming for practical understanding.

We will conduct research for inter-seminars with Chuo University and Ritsumeikan University and for in-house seminars. So far, we have given presentations on a variety of topics, including finance, such as "The impact of information leaks on stock prices," "Do Japanese people like shareholder benefits?", "Why do people want to get married?", and "Why do people quit their jobs?"

Evaluating corporate management using finance theory

The goal is to be able to confidently say that you have studied finance after graduation and be able to use that knowledge in your work and daily life. Examples of topics we have covered so far include evaluating the relationship between a CEO's resume, employee benefits strategy, and how surplus funds are used and corporate value from a financial perspective.
