MCV Educational Doctrine

MCV Mission Statement

To create, maintain, and constantly work on developing an environment in which students can practice using a foreign language for communication and thus gradually improve their knowledge of and communicative ability in that language. Our mission is to create an environment that is welcoming but that also gently pushes students to move beyond their current language ability. Additionally, understanding that it is impossible to separate language from culture and because we wish to empower students with a global knowledge base that positions them as active international citizens, we strive to incorporate language interaction within the various cultural contexts from which it originates.

MCV Implementation

Policies, Procedures, & Programs: In order to accomplish the goals set forth in the mission statement, the following “Policies”, “Procedures”, and “Programs” have been established. Note – Modification of the “3P’s” is expected and will be a continuous process in accordance with the mission of constantly improving upon what the MCV has to offer to Musashi University students.

Policies

  1. Atmosphere
    • MCV Staff (admin & educational) should always be conscious of the visitors who are in the MCV and work toward the goal of making their visit a valuable language-learning encounter.
  2. Education
    • Every effort will be made to make visits to the MCV (for whatever reason) an educational experience. (e.g. This may be as simple as a greeting in a foreign language.)
  3. Participation
    • Programs will be designed such that linguistic interaction (communicative language use) is a core feature.
  4. Motivation
    • MCV Staff will work to positively influence learner motivation by attempting to determine what the motivational factors are for each individual visitor and catering to them.

Procedures

  1. Monitoring
    • In order to understand how well the MCV is accomplishing its goals, various types of ‘market research’ (monitoring) will be conducted.
  2. Marketing
    • Continual efforts will be made to market the opportunities and learning resources that are available in the MCV.
  3. Innovation
    • In response to monitoring and other sources of feedback, new program offerings will be continually considered. New programs should incorporate the ideologies listed in the MCV Polices section of this Doctrine.
  4. Implementation
    • Programs will be implemented in accordance with the policies set forth in the mission statement. Newcomer students will be encouraged to return to the MCV and every effort should be made to make the learning experience one that students will want to repeat.
  5. Interaction
    • The MCV will focus on providing interactive learning opportunities to all of its visitors. Additionally, we will strive to utilize technology to provide students with asynchronous linguistic and cultural learning opportunities that will strengthen their confidence and desire to devote further time and effort (in the MCV) toward expanding their horizons as global citizens.
