Q. Please tell us if you have noticed any changes or growth within yourself as a result of the inter-departmental seminar.

I have gotten into the habit of writing down my plans and notes in my planner.
I had tried to make taking notes a habit before taking this course, but I gave up after three days, using the effort required to record them and the lack of urgency as excuses. I realized my poor planning skills and the limitations of managing tasks in my head, so I decided to use this opportunity to overcome them. When I shared this with the other students in my diary after class, I received sympathetic and supportive comments, and even received words of encouragement from a company representative who said, "Take notes to forget. Become a note-taking maniac!" As my activities gradually became busier, the planner where I wrote down my plans and tasks became a tool that allowed me to leave the burden behind.
I still keep a schedule book and notes.

Q. How did your post-class diary entries and interviews with career consultants affect your activities in the inter-departmental seminar?

I don't usually keep a diary, and it was hard to write after every class, but by verbalizing my learning and feelings about the content-rich activities, I was able to objectively see my own changes and growth. Also, by looking at my classmates' diaries, I was able to see how they felt about their work, and I became more aware of the fact that we were working together.
I think the interview with the career consultant was very effective in helping me to reaffirm the basic working skills I need to develop and to organize my thoughts around my busy life.

Q. What was the best thing about taking the inter-departmental seminar?

I was able to develop the courage to take on challenges and the strength to persevere.
In the past, I often refrained from raising my hand or speaking up because I felt embarrassed about failing, but I realized that finding the courage to do so would lead to my own growth and could even benefit others. There were many difficult times during the project when I wanted to give up, but by sharing the challenges with the other members and working through them while imagining myself as a more mature person after achieving my goal and consulting with people close to me, I was finally able to complete the project and gain confidence in my tenacity.
Being able to become a team member who can support each other in a caring way is a big reason why I think this seminar was worthwhile.
