Exchange Program

Musashi University is located close to the center of Tokyo, an international city, yet its lush, tranquil campus provides an environment where you can concentrate on your studies. You can enjoy a fulfilling student life in a homely atmosphere. Musashi University 's exchange program does not require students to have Japanese language skills, and Japanese language classes are not mandatory. Students can choose from a wide range of classes based on their interests and goals, and deepen their learning independently. International students with high Japanese language proficiency can take the same classes as regular students. Through interactions in Japanese, you can deepen your specialized learning while also fostering friendships.

The campus is also an ideal place for international exchange. International students and Japanese students can naturally come together in a homely atmosphere, and through this interaction they can come to understand each other's cultures and values. This environment is sure to be a valuable experience that broadens your global perspective and deepens your understanding of different cultures.

Application

Eligibility

At the time of application and during the period of acceptance at Musashi University, applicants must be enrolled as full-time students at an overseas Partner institutions that has concluded an inter-university student exchange Partnership with Musashino University (enrollment must be for at least one year at the time of application).
■Students must meet the application requirements set forth in the inter-university exchange Partnership and be nominated by Partner institutions.
■ Meet the language requirements
To participate in the EAS program, we recommend that you have English proficiency equivalent to IELTS 6.0 or higher (an official score is not required, but a high level of English proficiency is required).

  • Application form in the designated format (send to the person in charge at Partner institutions at the start of the application period)
  • Certificate of enrollment
  • Official university transcript (with grading scale)
  • Letter of recommendation from professor
  • Health certificate (with doctor's comments)
  • Bank statement *Hard copy must be sent
  • Copy of passport (valid until the end of your study abroad period)

Class

East Asia Studies (EAS)

Musashi University 's exchange program offers the "East Asia Studies Courses (EAS Course)." EAS provides learning opportunities for international and Japanese students to learn and exchange ideas together, deepening their understanding of different cultures, stimulating each other, and broadening their own potential. In this environment, we aim to cultivate individuals who can be exposed to diverse values and contribute to the international community in the future.

 

All EAS course classes are taught in English, with each class meeting once or twice a week for 105 minutes. Each subject is worth two or four credits. Please note that student visa regulations require international students to attend at least 10 hours of classes per week. This course is taught by experts active in a wide range of fields, including not only academia but also business, media, and diplomacy.

Japanese Class

EAS course participants can take Japanese language classes according to their level, and do not need to submit official scores such as the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) to take classes.

Level placement is based primarily on the results of a placement test administered during the orientation period, but JLPT scores and previous learning history will also be taken into consideration.


In addition, students who have a certain level of Japanese language proficiency may be able to take regular classes (Specialized Courses etc.) at Musashi University after receiving approval from their respective instructors and having their language proficiency screened. Eligible students will be individually notified of the classes they are eligible to take.

Other Activities

Walkabout

"Walkabout" is an extracurricular activity for international students that is held three times each semester. It allows students to experience Japanese culture and history by touring attractive sites around Tokyo.

Regular students from Musashi University will also be participating, allowing for lively exchanges between students. This is a great opportunity to promote intercultural understanding and make new friends.

Participation is free (travel and food costs are at your own expense). If you want to rediscover the wonders of Japan and meet new people, please feel free to join us.

Club and circle activities

Musashi University offers a wide variety of clubs and circles, providing many opportunities to enrich your student life. Through extracurricular activities, you can meet people with common interests, acquire new skills, and make irreplaceable memories.

Some clubs also welcome the participation of international students. By participating in activities together with Japanese students, you can not only improve your Japanese language skills, but also gain a deeper experience of Japanese culture and student life.

Accommodation

Students participating in the exchange program can arrange accommodation through the university. If you wish to apply, please apply when submitting the designated application form.

NEM HOUSE

NEM HOUSE is located just a one-minute walk from the Ekoda Campus and is an apartment complex housing 10 Japanese students and 30 international students. It also has convenient access to four central Tokyo stations. All rooms are private and come equipped with a desk, chair, bed, clothes rack, bookshelf, refrigerator, air conditioning, a unit bath, and Wi-Fi, eliminating the need to purchase furniture. Shared facilities include an open kitchen, coin laundry, mailboxes, delivery boxes, a garbage collection area, and bicycle parking.

Access to Musashi University

Route from Narita International Airport

  • Take the Keisei Line to Nippori Station.
  • Transfer to the JR Yamanote Line (Platform 11) and get off at Ikebukuro Station.
  • Transfer to the Seibu Ikebukuro Line. Make sure to take a local train. Get off at Ekoda Station, the third stop. The ride from Ikebukuro Station to Ekoda Station takes about 7 minutes.

Route from Tokyo International Airport Haneda (Haneda Airport)

  • Take the Tokyo Monorail to Hamamatsucho Station.
  • Transfer to the JR Yamanote Line (Platform 3) and get off at Ikebukuro Station.
  • Transfer to the Seibu Ikebukuro Line. Make sure to take a local train. Get off at Ekoda Station, the third stop. The ride from Ikebukuro Station to Ekoda Station takes about 7 minutes.
After getting off at Ekoda Station, follow the route indicated on the map above.
