Initiatives to Improve the Quality of Teacher Training

The "Subjects on Basic Understanding of Education" are aimed at first-year students before they enroll in Teacher Training Course, and the curriculum is designed to help students determine their aptitude and ability for a teaching profession, as well as to build the foundations necessary for academic learning in Teacher Training Course.
In addition, from the second year onwards, classes are designed to encourage students to develop a spirit of emergence that allows them to develop a sense of problem awareness and pioneer new educational practices, based on a deep understanding of human beings and a broad perspective of nature and society. From the perspective of cultivating sociality, we also place importance on improving the quality of student self-governance activities. As one example of this, we have established a student supporter system in which senior students can consult with and give advice to junior students. These experiences in Teacher Training Course, combined with academic learning in specialized education such as distinctive seminars and graduation research in each department, contribute to producing students who are full of individuality in Teacher Training Course.
In practical courses such as Teaching Practicum in the third and fourth years, students are given mock classes in classes for each licensed subject they wish to obtain, so that they can experience learning through reflection in a peer group, deepen their understanding of class practice, and improve the quality of their classes.
Throughout Teacher Training Course, we offer classes that encourage students to "investigate and think for themselves," so that they will not become deliverers of given knowledge, but will contribute to the education world and society with the initiative and initiative to pioneer new fields while questioning the givens themselves. We provide many opportunities for participatory activities and self-reflection, and we keep classes small to make this possible.
In order to train teachers with a practical spirit, Teacher Training Course subjects have established a practical instructor system and a research collaborator system, and excellent current and former teachers with abundant field experience are asked to conduct model lessons and supervise students' mock lessons. The practical instructors provide detailed guidance, such as individual feedback not only in class but also outside of class. In terms of students' career development, we provide opportunities to receive advice and guidance from current and former teachers in collaboration with the alumni association. As a new initiative, starting from 2019, we held a two-night, three-day summer camp in Yamanashi Prefecture, where students had the opportunity to interact with students and teachers from local Junior High School, tackle glocal issues surrounding the school, and think about their own career development while interacting with Alumni who have completed Teacher Training Course.
In addition to regular classes, we also have a detailed system in place to cater to the needs and circumstances of each student. We provide individual course consultation sessions with teachers, courses related to teacher recruitment exams, and opportunities for individual interviews and guidance. We also provide opportunities to check students' course status, receive academic learning guidance, and offer career counseling.
In this way, learning in Teacher Training Course is in line with the basic educational goal of our university, which is to "foster Comprehensive Knowledge, Specialized Knowledge, and the ability to work with others and to have practical skills." Through the education in Teacher Training Course, we are nurturing students who meet these basic educational goals.
