Information regarding research ethics education at Musashi University.

Research Ethics Education

In order to comply with the "Guidelines for Responding to Misconduct in Research Activities" (decided by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology on August 26, 2014), our university provides research ethics education to a wide range of people involved in research activities. Until 2016, we used the CITI Japan e-learning program as the research ethics education material, and from 2017, we have used the e-Learning Course on Research Ethics [eL CoRE] by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science.

Target participants

Since 2025 is a simultaneous course year, all eligible students are required to take the course.
  • Full-time faculty members (professors, associate professors, full-time lecturers, assistant professors: registered with the cross-ministerial research and development management system (e-Rad))
    • All full-time faculty members listed above are eligible, regardless of whether they are conducting research with competitive funding such as Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research.
  • Research Fellow at the Comprehensive Research Organization (only principal investigators and co-researchers of Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research)
  • graduate student
    • Only those conducting research funded by competitive funds such as Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research will be able to take the e-learning course.
    • If you are not conducting research funded by competitive funding, etc., you will be required to read the book "For the Sound Development of Science - The Attitude of a Conscientious Scientist."
  • Other individuals who are conducting research using facilities and equipment of the University as instructed by the University.
*Newly appointed staff members are required to take the course at our university in the same year they take up their post, even if they are already taking the course at another institution.

Date of receipt of user ID and password - June 30, 2025

* User IDs and passwords will be sent by email from Research Support Division. If you have not received your ID and password by April 7th, please contact Research Support Division.

Course Manual

Eligible participants should download the manual below and take the research ethics training course.
  1. Log in to eL CoRE and select the start learning button for "Research Ethics: Learning and Thinking Through Case Studies - The Attitude of a Conscientious Scientist."
  2. Follow the instructions on the screen to take the course.
  3. You cannot proceed to the next chapter unless you answer all the questions in the "Confirmation Test" at the end of each chapter correctly.
  4. Please answer the "Course Review (Survey)" at the end of the course. Once you have completed the course review, you will be issued a certificate of completion.
    • *The certificate will be displayed in PDF format by clicking the "Certificate" button on the "My Room" page.
    • *Please keep your certificate in a safe place. There is no need to submit it.
  5. The course has ended.

Others

  • Your user ID and password will be sent to you by email from Research Support Division.
  • Regarding the timing of the training, the following is set: "For researchers affiliated with the University as of April 1, 2015, it will be provided in the 2015 academic year and every five years thereafter," and "For new researchers appointed from 2016 onwards, it will be provided upon their appointment, and the second training will be provided in the same year as the research ethics education for existing researchers, even if they have been affiliated with the University for less than five years."
  • The responsible office will check the completion status and notify the Research Ethics Education Officer. If a student has not completed the course by the deadline, the Research Ethics Education Officer will request that the student take the course again.
  • If you have lost your user ID or password or have any questions regarding your course, please contact the relevant office.
