Various policies regarding education and research

Musashi University 's educational origins are based on The Three Founding Principles, and in accordance with the philosophy of "liberal arts and science," the basic educational goal is to cultivate Comprehensive Knowledge, Specialized Knowledge, the ability to collaborate with others, and practical skills. Based on this basic educational goal, in addition to the three policies (Diploma Policy, Curriculum Policy, and admissions policy) and global education policy, the following policies have been established: 1. Student Support Policy, 2. Desired Faculty Profile and Faculty Organization Policy, 3. Research Support Policy, 4. Education and Research Organization Policy, 5. Education and Research Environment Policy, 6. Social Collaboration and Social Contribution Policy, 7. University Management Policy, and 8. Musashi University Internal Quality Assurance Policy.

1. Student Support Policy

Based on Musashi University Basic Policy on Human Rights, we have established the following policy regarding student support through collaboration between faculty and staff to ensure that each student can have a fulfilling student life and be able to choose a diverse range of career paths.

Study support

  1. We respect the diversity of our students and work together with each department to create support structures and systems to ensure that all students can have a fulfilling student life. In particular, we support students with disabilities based on the "Musashi University Basic Policy on Support for Students with Disabilities."
  2. We have introduced a supervising professor system and office hour system in all grades to support each student's independent learning.
  3. Understand students' academic status, including grades, absences, and repeating a year, and work together with each department to take appropriate measures to enable students to make better choices.
  4. Improve the academic learning environment for students by expanding Library, learning commons, group study rooms, MCV (Musashi Communication Village), ICT equipment, sports facilities, etc.
  5. To support academic learning and research activities of graduate students, we will expand support systems such as research subsidies and improve the research environment.

Life support

  1. Support extracurricular activities such as clubs, circles, various events, and volunteer activities as an opportunity for student growth.
  2. We will implement awareness-raising activities for students and faculty members to prevent harassment, and will establish a consultation system. If an incident occurs, we will deal with it promptly in accordance with the regulations.
  3. To ensure that students can live healthy lives both physically and mentally, we will establish Student Affairs Division, Health Clinic, and Student Counseling Room in Student Services Center, and assign specialists (counselors, experts, etc.) to create a system.
  4. Expand scholarship programs so that students can continue their student life with peace of mind.

Career Support

  1. In order to enable students to decide their own career paths, we will provide career support courses within the regular curriculum, as well as extracurricular programs such as courses to help students obtain qualifications and group discussions that make use of seminar education.
  2. Career counselors will be stationed at Career Development Center to provide guidance and other support programs from the first year onwards, and interviews will be held for all students to provide detailed career support based on each student's situation.
  3. Strengthen the system to improve views on employment by expanding the "Job Hunting Supporter System" run by current students who have completed their job hunting activities, and the "Musashi Job Academy" run by Alumni.
  4. Providing opportunities for internships, industry-academia collaboration projects, and fieldwork at companies to encourage students to develop a career mindset

2. Desired profile of faculty and faculty organization structure

Based on the fundamental educational goal of our university, we have established the following policies to cultivate cultured global leaders.

Ideal teacher

  2. Those who are enthusiastic about small-group seminar education, which is a tradition of our university.

Faculty Organization Policy

  1. Appropriately assign faculty members based on the standards for establishing universities and graduate schools.
  2. Organize faculty structures taking into consideration the number of students per faculty member relative to the capacity of the university.
  3. Organize a well-balanced teaching staff to avoid bias in age and position.
  4. Considering the basic principles of gender equality and the importance of diversity, ensure diversity among faculty members.
  5. The hiring and promotion of faculty members will be carried out through fair and transparent selection and screening in accordance with regulations.
  6. The Faculty Development (FD) Committee will systematically and continuously work to improve the teaching and research capabilities of faculty members.

3. Research Support Policy

Based on The Three Founding Principles of our university, we have established the following policy regarding research support.
  1. To improve the international research capabilities of our faculty members, we will strive to improve our training programs, research grants, and research space.
  2. Provide opportunities to share the results of research activities both within and outside the university
  3. Establish rules regarding research ethics to ensure that research is conducted appropriately, and provide thorough research ethics education to prevent research misconduct.
  4. Strengthen the checking system to ensure that research funds are appropriately used and managed.

4. Policy regarding education and research organization

Based on the basic educational goals of our university, we have established the following policy for the organization of our education and research organization.
  1. Appropriately consider academic trends, societal demands, and the international environment surrounding the university.
  2. The reorganization will be decided by the president after listening to the opinions of each department and going through discussions at the University Council.

5. Policy regarding the education and research environment

Based on the basic educational goals of our university, we have established the following policy for creating an environment that supports education and research.
  1. Promote student academic learning and faculty research activities, and utilize various on-campus resources to improve the educational and research environment so that the university is open to society.
  2. We will develop an environment that respects nature and culture, while considering the safety and convenience of students and faculty.
  3. Considering diversity, including disabilities and LGBT, we will systematically promote universal design, etc.
  4. To ensure that education and research activities can be carried out smoothly, the necessary quantity and quality of books, academic information services, and information network environments will be provided, along with sufficient space.

6. Policy regarding social cooperation and contributions

Based on the basic educational goals of our university, we have established the following policy regarding collaboration and cooperation with society.
  1. To develop human resources who can contribute broadly to the local and international communities.
  2. In response to social needs, we will cooperate with government, local governments, and industry to provide lifelong learning and collaborative projects with industry, government, academia, and citizens in order to return the results of our university's education and research to society.

7. University Management Policy

Based on the fundamental educational goals of our university, we have established the following policies regarding university management.

University Administration

  1. Under the leadership of the president, we will clarify the authority and responsibilities of the president and other officials and continuously improve the management and operational structure in order to realize the university's medium-term and financial plans.

8. Musashi University Internal Quality Assurance Policy

Under the basic objectives of the University's education, the following policy on internal quality assurance is established in accordance with the "Musashi University Internal Quality Assurance Regulations".
 
* Internal quality assurance in Musashi University refers to "the internal quality assurance of each department and organization (hereinafter referred to as "each department, etc.") in order to achieve the objectives of the Musashi University Regulations Article 1 and Musashi University Graduate School Regulations Article 1. Self-Assessment and Evaluation and, through efforts to improve and reform the university as a whole based on the results of such efforts, refers to the constant and ongoing process of explaining and certifying the level of education, research, etc. at one's own responsibility" (Musashi University Article 2 of the Internal Quality Assurance Regulations).

1. Basic Concept

  1. University-wide Self-Assessment and Evaluation
    • Based on the university's basic educational goals, we will conduct Self-Assessment and Evaluation of the status of education, research, and management and administration, and based on the results, promote constant improvements and reforms to improve the quality of the university as a whole.
  2. Verification and improvement measures based on the plan
    • Each year, the results of Self-Assessment and Evaluation prepared by each department are verified by the University-wide Self-Assessment and Evaluation Committee, and improvement measures are formulated by the Internal Quality Assurance Committee. The President's policy for promoting these measures is presented to all faculty and staff.
  3. Third-party evaluation
    • In order to ensure the objectivity and validity of our Self-Assessment and Evaluation and to improve the quality of our internal quality assurance system, we will implement external evaluations by third parties, including Accreditation and mutual evaluations. We will also always take appropriate measures through these.
  4. Disclosure of information as a social responsibility
    • We will fulfill our accountability by disclosing to society the status of our university's educational and research activities, including the results of our Self-Assessment and Evaluation, as well as the results of external evaluations.
  5. Promoting understanding of internal quality assurance among faculty and staff
    • With regard to internal quality assurance, we will promote understanding among our faculty and staff through the implementation of training for faculty and staff and the dispatch of committee members to external organizations, and establish an organizational culture that promotes improvement and reform.

2. organizational structure

  1. Internal Quality Assurance Committee
    • The Internal Quality Assurance Committee is responsible for promoting internal quality assurance at the university. Chaired by the president, the committee formulates university-wide policies for internal quality assurance and develops improvement plans based on university-wide Self-Assessment and Evaluation.
  2. University-wide Self-Assessment and Evaluation Committee
    • The University-wide Self-Assessment and Evaluation Committee will evaluate the results of Self-Assessment and Evaluation of each department from a university-wide perspective in accordance with the policies and evaluation standards established by the Internal Quality Assurance Committee, and will prepare a Self-Assessment and Evaluation report for the entire university. The evaluation will be evidence-based in cooperation with the FD Committee.
  3. Self-Assessment and Evaluation by each department
    • Based on the Internal Quality Assurance Committee's guidelines, each department, etc., will conduct Self-Assessment and Evaluation and prepare a Self-Assessment and Evaluation report, with the head of the department, etc., as the person responsible. In particular, the head of each department will report the contents of Self-Assessment and Evaluation report for the undergraduate, graduate, Musashi University Liberal Arts and Sciences Education Center to the Faculty Council.
  4. Musashi University External Evaluation Committee
    • The Musashi University External Evaluation Committee is composed of external experts and evaluates the objectivity and validity of Self-Assessment and Evaluation results, as well as the effectiveness of internal quality assurance, with the aim of improving the university's education, research, management, and administration, and reports the results to the Internal Quality Assurance Committee. Evaluations by the committee are conducted at least once every three years.
  5. University Planning Division
    • University Planning Division handles matters related to Self-Assessment and Evaluation, external evaluation (accreditation evaluation, mutual evaluation, etc.), and the promotion of internal quality assurance at the university. It also supports the verification of educational effectiveness aimed at improving education, as well as the promotion of Faculty Development (FD) and Staff Development (SD) activities.

3. Internal quality assurance system

  1. Our university's internal quality assurance is promoted through a series of PDCA cycles, beginning with the formulation of annual business plans based on the medium-term plan.
  2. Each department will conduct Self-Assessment and Evaluation at least once a year and submit Self-Assessment and Evaluation report to the president by the deadline set by the Internal Quality Assurance Committee.
  3. All faculty and staff members of the University will strive to improve the University's education, research, management, administration, and operations through Faculty Development (FD) and Staff Development (SD) activities, faculty evaluations, and staff personnel evaluations.
  4. The University-wide Self-Assessment and Evaluation Committee will evaluate the evaluation results of each department, etc., prepare a university-wide Self-Assessment and Evaluation report, and submit it to the Internal Quality Assurance Committee.
  5. The Internal Quality Assurance Committee will receive reports from the University-wide Self-Assessment and Evaluation Committee and formulate improvement measures.
  6. Musashi University External Evaluation Committee will meet at least once every three years to hear opinions regarding the university's education, research, management, and operation, and to reflect these opinions in improvement plans.
  7. The President will formulate improvement measures for education, research, management and administration as the President's policy, taking into full consideration the opinions of the Internal Quality Assurance Committee, the University-wide Self-Assessment and Evaluation Committee, Musashi University External Evaluation Committee, etc., and will instruct each department.

4. Policies and guidelines for action at our university

Every academic year, we conduct reviews based on our founding philosophy, basic educational goals, university-wide policies, the three policies formulated by each faculty and graduate school (Diploma Policy, Curriculum Policy, admission policy), and the global education policy. Based on these, each faculty, graduate school, and department formulates its own business plan, which is reviewed from a university-wide perspective to lead to improvements. For other matters, we follow the policies formulated by the Internal Quality Assurance Committee.
