Graduate Graduate School of Economics Completion Requirements
Master's Program
According to the Graduate School University Regulations, students must be enrolled for at least two years, earn a total of 30 or more credits, and pass the examination of their dissertation (master's thesis or research paper). However, research papers can be used as dissertations only in the Advanced Professional Course. Completion requirements for each course/program are set out separately.
Doctoral Program
According to the Doctral Program School University Regulations, the requirements for completing the doctoral program are to be enrolled for at least three years, to earn a total of 20 or more credits from courses in the Graduate Graduate School of Economics Doctral Program, and to pass the thesis (doctoral dissertation) examination. Doctral Program courses consist of two types of courses: specialized research, which serves as an advanced seminar in a specialized field, and thesis guidance, which is a course for preparing a doctoral thesis. For thesis guidance, students must take courses each year assigned by their supervisor and earn a total of 12 or more credits. Additionally, students must earn at least eight credits from courses in Doctral Program Graduate School of Economics designated by their supervisor.
Graduate Graduate School of Humanities Completion Requirements
Master's Program
European and American Studies Major
- Students must be enrolled for at least two years. However, students enrolled for a long period of time must be enrolled for the standard period of study (3 or 4 years). Students eligible for the "Early Completion System" will be required to enroll in one year.
- Students must earn a total of 30 credits or more, of which 20 credits or more must be from subjects in European and American Studies Major European and American Studies Major, and 16 credits must be from subjects taught or recommended by the supervising professor.
- Thesis Review (Specialized Research Course) Students must earn a total of four credits in the "European and American Culture Research Seminar 1" and "European and American Culture Research Seminar 2" taught by a professor in their major during the year in which they are writing their thesis, and must pass the thesis review.
- Special Topic Research Examination (Career Advancement Course, Lifelong Learning Course) Students must earn credits for a seminar course taught by their supervising professor in the year in which the Special Topic Research is prepared and pass the Special Topic Research examination.
Japanese Studies Major
- Students must be enrolled for at least two years. However, students enrolled for a long period of time must be enrolled for the standard period of study (3 or 4 years). Students eligible for the "Early Completion System" will be required to enroll in one year.
- Students must earn a total of 30 credits or more, of which 20 credits or more must be from subjects in Japanese Studies Major, and 16 credits must be from subjects in Japanese Studies Major taught or directed by the supervising professor.
- Thesis Review (Specialized Research Course) Students must earn a total of four credits in the courses "Japanese Culture Studies Supervision Seminar 1" and "Japanese Culture Studies Supervision Seminar 2" taught by a professor in their major during the year in which they are writing their thesis, and must pass the thesis review.
- Special Topic Research Examination (Career Advancement Course, Lifelong Learning Course) Students must earn credits for a seminar course taught by their supervising professor in the year in which the Special Topic Research is prepared and pass the Special Topic Research examination.
Sociology Major
- Students must be enrolled for at least two years. However, students enrolled for a long period of time must be enrolled for the standard period of study (3 or 4 years). Students eligible for the "Early Completion System" will be required to enroll in one year.
- Students must earn a total of 30 credits or more, of which 20 credits or more must be from subjects in Sociology Major Sociology Major and 16 credits must be from subjects taught or directed by the supervising professor.
- Thesis Review (Specialized Research Course) Students must earn a total of four credits in "Sociology Research Supervision Seminar 1" and "Sociology Research Supervision Seminar 2" taught by a supervising professor in their department in the year in which they write their thesis, and must pass the thesis review.
- Special Topic Research Examination (Career Advancement Course, Lifelong Learning Course) Students must earn credits for a seminar course taught by their supervising professor in the year in which the Special Topic Research is prepared and pass the Special Topic Research examination.
Doctoral Program
Doctral Program for at least three years, earn a total of 12 or more credits by taking "special seminars" taught by their supervising professor, receive research guidance from their supervising professor, and pass the thesis examination.
