We would like to thank you for your continued understanding and cooperation with our research group's activities.
Following on from last year, we once again co-hosted a community business course and lecture with Nerima Ward this year, and would like to report on it as follows.

1. Holding a community business seminar (co-hosted with Nerima Ward)

Overall title: "Community development that began with the development of the yuzu market: The history of the challenges faced by Umaji Village, Kochi Prefecture"

Lecturer: Mr. Nozomi Higashitani (Representative Director of Umaji Village Agricultural Cooperative Association)
Date and time: October 1st (Friday) 18:30-20:00
Location: Musashi University Building 8, 6th floor, Room 8603

Approximately 70 participants

Umajimura Agricultural Cooperative was looking into ways to increase consumption of yuzu, which has been sluggish as a yuzu producing area.
However, a once-in-four-years bumper harvest caused a sharp drop in prices, forcing them to develop a new product. After much trial and error, the "Gokkun Umajimura" was born and became a big hit. In order to cope with the sudden increase in orders, they received cooperation from various quarters and built not only a large factory, but also a "Yuzu Forest."

In this lecture, we were able to fully understand that behind the success of Umajimura's yuzu product development and increased awareness, there was the extraordinary enthusiasm and efforts of Mr. Azumaya and the other villagers. In addition, Mr. Azumaya's charming way of speaking made us want to visit Umajimura, and the venue was filled with excitement.

2nd October 20, 2010 (Wednesday) 18:30-20:30
"Regional design and community business mechanisms"

Total number of participants: Approximately 60

Mr. Nagasawa, a leading expert in community business support, introduced examples of advanced initiatives in each region. The participants seemed to have gained an idea of what community business could be in Nerima Ward.
In the second lecture, we gave some specific themes related to community business in Nerima Ward, and divided into groups of people who agreed with the themes to hold discussions. Everyone was enthusiastic about exchanging opinions and presenting ideas that they had been working on.
Even after the lecture ended, many people asked questions, making it a very productive session.
