Master's Program

In principle, students must have been enrolled in this course for at least 2 years (4 semesters) and received the prescribed credits (30Master's degree is awarded to those who have completed the credits, received research guidance, submitted a master's thesis or research on a specific topic, passed the examination, and acquired the abilities and qualities specified in each major. In this course, if students with excellent grades meet the prescribed conditions, they can apply the early completion system and complete the course in one year (two semesters). 

European and American Studies Major

Master of Arts will be awarded to students who have cultivated the following abilities and qualities as part of the three courses:
  1. Specialized knowledge in the fields of Western languages, literature, history, thought, art, and comparative cultural theory, which is the basis for researchers in the humanities or suitable for professional professionals, and a broad liberal education in related fields
  2. Ability to carry out original and autonomous research activities in a specialized research area
  3. Acquire professional analysis, research methods, and research techniques on the research topic, and be able to draw original conclusions and make proposals.
  4. Ability to use the language required for research in a specialized field
  5. The ability to communicate and express research results to the academic and educational communities, and to society at large
  6. The ability to raise unresolved issues and take the initiative to solve them

Japanese Studies Major

Master of Arts will be awarded to students who have cultivated the following abilities and qualities as part of the three courses:
  1. Specialized knowledge in the fields of East Asian cultural theory, such as Japanese language, literature, history, thought, art, folklore, and performing arts, which is the basis for researchers in the humanities or suitable for professional professionals, and a broad education in related fields
  2. Ability to carry out original and autonomous research activities in a specialized research area

Master of Sociology will be awarded to students who have cultivated the following abilities and qualities as part of the three courses:

  1. Knowledge of sociology in the fields of sociology, sociological methodology, media Specialized Knowledge theory, and cultural anthropology, or Specialized Knowledge knowledge that contributes to social contribution related to these fields
  2. Specialized research and analysis methods in sociology, or related practical techniques
  3. Analytical skills and inquisitiveness to elucidate themes set by oneself within the research area
  4. Advanced language skills or communication skills required for social contribution
  5. Expressive skills such as sentence structure skills and debate skills to convey one's own knowledge through the publication of results, etc.

Doctoral Program

A doctoral degree will be awarded to students who have studied in this program for at least three years (six semesters), received the required research guidance, submitted a doctoral thesis, passed the thesis review and final examination, and acquired the abilities and qualities required by each department.

European and American Studies Major

Ph.D.(Humanities) will be awarded to those who have acquired the abilities and qualities listed below.

  1. Exceptional specialized knowledge in the fields of European and American language, literature, history, thought, art, and comparative cultural studies, appropriate for a researcher or highly specialized professional in the humanities.
  2. Ability to carry out original, autonomous, and advanced research activities in a specialized research field

Master's Program consists of three majors: European and American Studies Major, Japanese Studies Major, and Sociology Program. Each major has specialized research courses, career advancement courses, and lifelong learning courses, and has a curriculum designed to cultivate advanced specialized knowledge, research and research skills, language use skills, and compositional and expressive skills in the publication of results in the humanities and sociology. In addition, for students who are expected to have difficulty completing the master's course in two years, we have established a long-term student system with a duration of 3 or 4 years.

Based on the "The Three Founding Principles" on which the school was founded, as well as the university's basic educational goals and Diploma Policy, the Graduate School will organize and implement its educational curriculum in accordance with the following guidelines.
