Graduate School of Economics Policies
Based on the founding principles of Musashi Gakuen and the basic educational goals of the university, the Graduate School aims to provide students with the educational and research objectives of acquiring advanced Specialized Knowledge and research skills, and cultivating the knowledge and intellectual skills necessary to pursue highly specialized careers. It also aims to nurture talented individuals who can contribute to the stability and development of the economy and society.
Diploma Policy
Major in Economics, Management and Finance
Based on the specialized knowledge and comprehensive education acquired in the bachelor's degree program, we provide research guidance in economic theory, economic history, applied economics, management, business information, accounting, and finance. In Master's Program, we aim to improve research ability and cultivate the knowledge and skills necessary for a highly specialized career, while in Doctral Program, we aim to acquire advanced academic and research skills and the specialized skills necessary to thrive in the research departments of higher education institutions and companies. Through these programs, our educational and research objective is to nurture talented individuals with outstanding academic knowledge and leadership skills who can contribute to the stability and development of the economy and society.
Master's Program
In principle, students must study in this course for at least two years (four terms), acquire the required credits (30 credits), receive research guidance, submit a master's thesis or research paper, and pass its examination. Furthermore, a Master's degree (in Economics) will be awarded to those who have acquired the following Specialized Knowledge, research and survey skills, and expression skills, and have cultivated the qualities appropriate for researchers and highly skilled professionals, as set out in the Researcher Course and Highly Skilled Professional Course.
(1) Researcher Course
- Have Specialized Knowledge in economics, business administration, and finance
- Possess the investigative spirit and ability to investigate and analyze in order to clarify a topic that you have set yourself within your field of expertise.
- Possess sufficient organizational ability, writing ability, and discussion ability to communicate research results.
- Have the ability to continue independent research activities both in Japan and overseas
- Students must have an interest in domestic and international issues, and be able to proactively address problems through dialogue or collaboration with others while utilizing their advanced knowledge.
(2) Advanced Professional Course
- Acquire Specialized Knowledge suited to each program
- Possess the investigative spirit and research skills required for career development in a specialized field and for solving a theme of their own choosing
- Possess sufficient organizational ability, writing ability, and discussion ability to convey one's knowledge
- Possess the qualities to continue to pursue advanced Specialized Knowledge
- Ability to proactively tackle problem-solving through dialogue or collaboration with others
Doctoral Program
In this course, students will acquire the ability to conduct independent research activities both domestically and internationally in their specialized research fields as talented researchers who can contribute to the stability and development of the social economy. In principle, students will be awarded a PhD (in Economics) if they have been enrolled in this course for at least three years (six semesters), received research guidance, acquired the required number of credits, submitted a dissertation application, and passed the examination and final examination.
- Have acquired the broad and outstanding specialized knowledge expected of a researcher
- Ability to conduct autonomous and advanced research activities in specialized research fields in economics, business administration, and finance
- Have acquired advanced analytical and research techniques and the ability to draw original conclusions and make proposals
- Ability to disseminate research results at academic conferences, in educational settings, and to the wider public
- Have the ability to proactively tackle unresolved problems while utilizing advanced insight
Curriculum Policy
Master's Program
Master's Program consists of one major at Major in Economics, Management and Finance and provides research guidance in economic theory, economic history, applied economics, management, management information, accounting, and finance. There are two courses: the Researcher Course and the Advanced Professional Course. The Advanced Professional Course is further divided into the Career-Specific Program and the Theme-Specific Research Program. The curriculum of this course is designed to cultivate the specialized knowledge and applied skills required for independent research activities in the fields of economics, business administration, and finance in the Researcher Course, and the highly specialized knowledge and applied skills required by society in the Highly Skilled Professionals Course. For students who anticipate difficulty in completing the first semester in two years, we offer a long-term enrollment system that allows students to take courses over a period of three or four years.
(1) Researcher Course
- A systematic arrangement of "exercises" and "lectures" is provided to enable students to acquire the specialized knowledge and application skills necessary to conduct independent research activities in the fields of economic theory, economic history, applied economics, management, business information, accounting, and finance.
- Students are assigned one professor and up to two assistant professors from among full-time faculty members, and under their guidance they take the courses required to complete the program.
- In principle, master's thesis submitters must undergo a review by a review committee consisting of three or more faculty members in charge of thesis-Related Courses, and a final examination.
- Research guidance is based on a research guidance plan provided to each student by the supervising professor.
(2) Advanced Professional Course
- In order to help students acquire the advanced specialized knowledge and application skills required by society in the fields of economic theory, economic history, applied economics, management, business information, accounting, and finance, courses such as "exercises" and "lectures" are systematically arranged.
- Students are assigned one supervisor and up to two assistant supervisors from among full-time faculty members, and under their guidance they take the courses required to complete the program.
- In principle, those who submit a master's thesis or research paper must undergo review by a review committee consisting of three or more faculty members in charge of thesis-Related Courses, and a final examination.
- Research guidance is based on a research guidance plan provided to each student by the supervising professor.
- The advanced professional course will have a career-specific program aimed primarily at obtaining qualifications, and a thematic program in which students advance research according to a pre-determined theme.
- The career-specific programs are divided into four areas: civil servant, accounting professional, IT management strategist, and securities analyst.
- The thematic program is structured so that students can select a research topic from eight themes and conduct practical, problem-solving research.
Doctoral Program
Doctral Program consists of one major, Major in Economics, Management and Finance, and has seven research themes: Economic Theory, Economic History, Applied Economics, Management, Management Information, Accounting, and Finance. This program has a curriculum designed to train researchers who will be engaged in research activities at universities, think tanks, and other research institutes.
- In order to help students acquire wide-ranging and outstanding specialized knowledge and research skills in the fields of economic theory, economic history, applied economics, management, business information, accounting, and finance, subjects such as "Thesis Guidance" and "Special Research" are systematically arranged.
- Students are assigned one supervisor and up to two assistant supervisors from among full-time faculty members, and under their guidance, they take "special research" courses, which are characterized as advanced seminars on Specialized Courses, and "thesis guidance" courses, which are aimed at preparing for thesis writing.
- Students must prepare and submit an annual research report each year until they submit their dissertation. Research guidance in this course is provided by the supervising professor based on the research guidance plan.
- The content of the thesis application must be two or more papers that have been published or accepted in the Musashi University Journal or a well-established academic journal in the major academic field (one of which may have already been accepted).
- After the formal submission of the thesis, the thesis must be reviewed by a review committee consisting of three or more faculty members in charge of thesis-Related Courses, and a final examination must be taken.

We accept students who understand our school's "The Three Founding Principles" and "basic educational goals," who have acquired a wide range of knowledge and a deep education in the undergraduate course, who have research interests in the fields of economic theory, economic history, applied economics, business management, business information, accounting, finance, and related fields, who have sufficient specialized knowledge, foreign language reading comprehension skills, and theoretical analytical ability to study in this graduate school, and who wish to improve their research skills and acquire the knowledge necessary to enter a highly specialized profession.

Researcher Course

This program is aimed at students who wish to proceed to Doctral Program and are motivated to write a master's thesis. A written examination will be used to evaluate the student's specialist knowledge and foreign language skills, particularly reading comprehension, and an oral examination will be given to comprehensively evaluate the student's initiative and motivation based on the reasons for applying and the content of their research plan at the time of application.

This program is aimed at those who wish to find employment after completing Master's Program Applicants will be assessed in a written examination on their specialist knowledge and foreign language skills, particularly their reading comprehension, as well as in an oral examination on their reasons for applying and their course selection at the time of application, the content of their research plan, future career plans, etc., in order to comprehensively evaluate their initiative and motivation.

This course accepts students who have acquired high levels of specialized ability in the fields of economics, business administration, and finance during Master's Program, as well as the ability to read and understand foreign language literature, theoretical analytical skills, and linguistic proficiency, and who are motivated to conduct independent research activities in their specialized fields, both domestically and internationally, and complete a dissertation, as talented researchers who can contribute to the stability and development of the social economy.
Admission Policy and Evaluation Points
This program is aimed at people who hold a master's degree or professional degree and who intend to carry out independent, advanced research in their specialized research field. Written and oral examinations in a foreign language are used to evaluate whether or not they have the high level of specialized ability, ability to read and understand foreign language literature, theoretical analytical skills, and language proficiency required to complete a dissertation.
