Minimum requirements for application acceptance
When applying for a doctoral dissertation examination at Graduate School of Economics, the Graduate School Committee will only accept dissertations that meet the following conditions. The content of the dissertation will be reviewed and a final examination will be conducted in accordance with Article 8 of Musashi University Degree Regulations, after which a decision will be made on whether to award the degree.
- In the case of examination under Article 4, Paragraph 2 of Musashi University Degree Regulations (submission within three years after completion of Doctral Program or three years of enrollment in the doctoral program), the content constituting the doctoral thesis must satisfy either ① or ② below.
- 1) At least one paper must have been published or accepted in the Musashi University Review (including research notes) or a reputable specialist academic journal in the major academic field, and one more paper must be deemed suitable for publication. The thesis application must be based on these two papers and compiled as a thesis that makes an original contribution to the major field. In addition, for joint papers, only one paper of which the applicant for the thesis review is the main author (first author) may be included among the previously published papers.
- ② A published book with an original contribution to the academic field of your choice or a thesis of equivalent structure. The book must be around 150 pages long. One chapter of the book may be the result of collaborative research.
- In the case of review under Article 4, Paragraph 3 of Musashi University Degree Regulations (in the case of submission made more than three years after three years of enrollment in Doctral Program, or by an individual who was not enrolled in Doctral Program at this university or who has not been enrolled for three years for a valid reason), the content constituting the doctoral thesis must satisfy either ① or ② below.
- ①The thesis that constitutes the degree application must have been published in at least five papers in the Musashi University Review or a reputable specialized academic journal in the major academic field, and based on these papers, the thesis must have an original contribution to the major field and be compiled into a systematic thesis. In addition, for joint papers, one paper is calculated as 0.5 paper, and up to two papers (0.5 paper x 4 papers) may be added.
- ② A published book or an equivalent doctoral thesis that has an original contribution and systematic structure in the field of study. The book must be about 200 pages long. Two chapters of the book may include the results of collaborative research, but must be able to demonstrate the original contribution of the applicant.
Supplementary Provisions
This agreement will come into effect on February 17, 2002.
