Responses when J-Alert is issued due to ballistic missile launch
If a missile is launched and it is expected to affect Tokyo, the national government will transmit emergency information such as missile launch information and calls for indoor evacuation through the J-Alert (nationwide instantaneous warning system), and this information will be transmitted via emergency alert emails on smartphones and through the ward's disaster prevention radio broadcasting building. In that case, please remain calm and immediately take the following actions.
If you are outdoors
Take refuge in a nearby building or underground. If there is no suitable building nearby, hide in the shadows or lie on the ground and protect your head.
If you're indoors
Move as far away from windows as possible, and if possible, move to a room without windows.
Points to note when transmitting emergency information
- Please speak to those around you and encourage them to take the above steps.
- If you receive any instructions from your university, please follow them.
- If you are at home, please wait at home and ensure that it is safe before commuting to work or school. If you are at university, please wait at the university and ensure that it is safe before returning home.
- Please also keep the above precautions in mind when commuting to work or school. When using public transport, please follow the instructions of the staff.
