"New Commentary Complete Translation: Nihon Shoki" has also entered the middle volume, and we have entered an era in which everyone has learned in textbooks in the form of "Kofun period" and the so-called "Five Kings of Japan", which is dealt with in the ancient history part. However, our goal was not to judge how much the articles in the Nihon Shoki reflect historical facts, but to clarify what kind of "history" the Nihon Shoki is trying to tell through the textual analysis of the Nihon Shoki itself. In other words, this book raises the question of whether the method of historiography, which has traditionally incorporated historical materials other than the Nihon Shoki (other documents such as the Kojiki and excavated historical materials) and Chinese history books from outside, and has built Japan's ancient history by criticizing the historical sources of the Nihon Shoki, may be deviating from understanding the Nihon Shoki.
