A word from the editor
This book extensively examines the "sense of home" in Japanese culture from ancient times to the present day from the perspectives of literature, intellectual history, and tourism. By examining the "hometown" that is often thought to be universal in a diachronic manner, we can see that each era and perspective takes on different aspects. It should show the continuation and severance of the concept of "hometown" in Japanese culture, as well as the long history of creation. (Lindsay Morrison)
