New Year's Greetings 2026 —President Noriyuki Takahashi

Just like last year, this year we were able to enjoy a relatively peaceful New Year's holiday without any major disasters or accidents within Japan.1On the 6th of this month, an earthquake occurred in eastern Shimane Prefecture, leaving several people injured. We sincerely pray for the speedy recovery of all those affected.

2026Year18Age population110This will be the last year that the number will remain in the 10,000 range, and the decline will continue for some time to come.2040It is predicted that the population decline will slow down somewhat from 2019, so the next step for Musashi University will be to become a university that is needed by society more than ever before.100This is a necessary condition for celebrating the anniversary in a good way.

2027We have completed the design of the new curriculum that will begin in the academic year, so this year will be the year in which we put the finishing touches on preparations for the new curriculum. Important work remains to be done to put the new curriculum into practice, such as faculty personnel appointments and lesson plans, so we will continue to work relentlessly toward our goals.

In terms of the education and research environment,2025year7New student cafeteria in January2Building No. was completed,9Starting in Tsuki, the cafeterias will also be available to students. We hope that students will make full use of them not only as a place to eat, but also for self-study, group study, and chatting with friends. In an age where the quality of learning is determined by how you spend your time on campus, we hope that the various spaces on campus will become an infrastructure that supports the growth of students.

Musashi Seminar will continue to evolve. This is not just an evolution of the seminar class, but also of all students.1It also refers to the campus culture, not corporate culture, that is born from students belonging to a variety of unique seminars from their first year. Students who have studied different fields in seminars meet in classes and extracurricular activities, and sometimes work together, which creates a certain chemical reaction from the interaction between different things. The existence of many seminars makes the opportunities for this chemical reaction even more abundant. This is another asset born from "Musashi's Seminars," and I believe it is a strength unique to Musashi University. The characteristics of Musashi University 's current students and Alumni are evident in the fact that they have acquired strong individuality and the ability to understand and collaborate with others and practical skills, skills that at first glance may seem difficult to combine.

The appeal of Musashi University is being communicated not only within the university but also to society at large. Last year, a film set at Musashi University, "If We Meet in Our Dreams," directed by Yosuke Nakagawa, a Musashi University Alumni, was released in collaboration with the alumni association.11It was completed in March. Although there are probably many people who have not yet seen it, the film is one that conveys the greatness of Musashi University, so we would like to actively create opportunities for current students, faculty, and staff, as well as parents, alumni, and the general public, to see it.

In terms of entrance examinations, Applicant for Comprehensive entrance examination were the first to apply.800The number Prospective Students wanting to study at Musashi University is steadily increasing, reaching 10,000. This trend is also a reflection of the efforts in education and research we have accumulated to date, and the recognition that society has shown for the achievements of our students and Alumni. It is important that this momentum not be a passing fad, but that it be sustained in the future, and to that end, we will further strengthen our collaboration with people both inside and outside the university.

This year, according to the Chinese zodiac, is the Year of the Horse (Hinoe-Uma). The fire qualities of the "Hinoe" come together with the drive of the "Horse," making this a passionate, energetic, and powerful year. In keeping with the year in which the qualities of fire and drive come together, let Musashi University also make this a year full of vitality, translating our past efforts into concrete results.

This year, we will continue to return to our roots and strive to maintain a positive attitude in all we do, so we ask for your continued support, even more so than last year. Finally, I would like to wish you all a fruitful New Year, and wish you all the best in the coming year.
