[Cross-departmental seminar] Final report session for the fall semester of 2025 held

On Saturday, December 6th, the final report session for this year's fall semester's "Cross-Faculty Seminar Project (Course Name: Cross-Faculty Problem-Solving Project)" was held, which was open to the public. Representatives from the Seikatsu Club Business Union Consumers' Co-operative Association (abbreviated as Seikatsu Club), the organization that provided the project, were invited to our university.
There are two assignments for this class:
1) Create a booklet that organizes the social roles and contributions of the companies and organizations providing the projects from the perspective of social issues.
② Think about how to create our future through the companies and organizations that provide solutions to these social issues.

Up until the interim presentation on October 25th, the students were divided into faculties and conducted their analysis, making use of their respective faculty's expertise. After the interim presentation, they formed cross-faculty teams and, drawing on the results of their previous research and analysis, clarified the social role that Seikatsu Club has played and came up with concrete proposals for the future they wanted to create through Seikatsu Club. 86 people participated in the final presentation, including online, with each team giving a 30-minute presentation. A simple printed version of the booklet they created was then distributed to attendees at the venue, while a PDF version was shared on a screen for those in the online venue to read.
Through their research and analysis, the students concluded that the concepts of "social solidarity economy" and "capital (which includes not only economic capital but also cultural and social capital)" are effective ways of understanding Seikatsu Club. Based on these concepts, the team came up with the presentation concepts of "Connecting through emotions - moving our lives" and "Connecting hands to create together." Based on these concepts, they devised proposals to solve social issues such as "diluting human relationships," "declining food self-sufficiency," "global warming," and "delayed multicultural understanding."

After the presentations, representatives from the Seikatsu Club Federation and university officials shared their thoughts, saying things like, "We were able to once again see how the emotions of each individual were the driving force that connected people and made each activity a reality," "I think there were some proposals that combined the strengths of the Seikatsu Club," "We'd like to take the proposals from a new perspective into consideration," and "It was disappointing that, even though the proposal addressed multicultural coexistence, this wasn't reflected on the cover."
With the cooperation of the Seikatsu Club, the students were able to consider how to create a sustainable society through their own lives, which led them to see social issues as something that concerns them personally, further deepening their learning.
In the coming term, we would like to continue developing this project, taking into account the challenges surrounding companies, which have no correct answers, while maintaining a diverse perspective and an attitude of continuing to question them.

Student comments after the final presentation (from class SNS)
"With this final presentation as a turning point, I feel like the inter-faculty seminar has come to an end. The three months since September have been hectic, with so many things happening, and it has gone by in the blink of an eye. Seeing everyday life through the non-profit organization Seikatsu Club, I have come to realise that "we young people aren't thinking about anything right now." As the phrase "conscious consumer" suggests, these three months have really made me think that it is not enough to just look after ourselves, but that we need to think about the future as well. It made me realise that perhaps we are extremely indifferent and cold-hearted when it comes to "creating our own future."
After the final presentation, I thought, "Living life with gratitude and cherishing what we have now is a step towards changing our daily lives and changing the people around us from indifference to interest." I feel that my perspective has broadened through my involvement with Seikatsu Club.
