Musashi University will be holding an international seminar titled "The Evolution of Capitalism and Money/Finance" on Thursday, January 23rd.
We have invited Professor Costas Lapavitsas (SOAS, University of London) and Professor Tadashi Nishibe (Senshu University, School of Faculty of Economics) to examine the evolution of capitalism using globalization, financialization, and universal commodification as keywords.

Speaker introduction

Professor Costas Lapavitsas
He has taught economics at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London since 1999, and has been a professor there since 2008. He is well known for his critical research on the current financial system.
He served as a member of parliament in Greece for one year from 2015, where he criticized the EURO system in relation to the Greek government debt crisis.
He is also a columnist for the British high-quality newspaper, The Guardian.
Professor Tadashi Nishibe
He has been teaching economics at Faculty of Economics Hokkaido University since 1994, and has been a professor there since 2007. He has been a professor at the Faculty of Economics Senshu University since 2017.
He specializes in monetary theory and evolutionary economics, and has been the president of the Society for Evolutionary Economics since 2017.

The lecture, entitled "Finance and Capitalist Development," will provide a comparative analysis of the role of finance in the evolution of capitalism after World War II and critically examine mainstream methodologies.

Tadashi Nishibe
The lecture, titled “Internalization of the Market and Financial Capitalism,” will analyze the internalization of the market and financial capitalism in three stages: external commodification, internal commodification, and universal commodification, focusing on money and labor-power commodities.
